For years, RELEX has helped retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers reduce waste through forecast and inventory optimization.
Food waste is a major environmental issue, responsible for 8-10% of yearly global greenhouse gas emissions. We are proud that our food retail and wholesale customers are typically able to cut their food waste by 10-40% through implementation of our platform. Across our entire food retail and grocery customer base, a conservative estimate of 15% reduction in food waste translates to a whopping reduction of 350 million kilograms of reduced food waste in 2024. This equals roughly 1.2M metric tons of CO2 equivalents.
We also want to practice what we preach – and we’re proud to say that from 2021 onwards we have been offsetting our yearly emissions through high-quality carbon offset projects.
10-40%

350,000,000+

1,200,000
tonnes of CO2 equivalents saved annually
By optimizing end-to-end inventory management for fresh food products, we’re cutting food waste by up to 40%. Across our customer base, that means we prevent 350M+ kilograms of food waste each year.
Stopping 350M+ kgs of food waste is the same as stopping 1.2M tonnes of CO2 equivalents. Put another way, our annual carbon handprint has the same impact as planting 32 million trees to remove CO2 from the air.
When examining the difference between our carbon footprint (3800 tonnes in 2022) and our estimated carbon handprint (1.2M tonnes in 2024), it’s easy to see that we have an overwhelmingly positive environmental impact. This is something we are very proud of!
Tracking CO2 emissions from purchased goods can be a challenging and laborious process. Companies face global pressure to report all Scope 3 emissions categories and comply with mandates such as the European CSDR directive and California SB 253 Act.
RELEX CO2 Analytics automatically calculates and visualizes emissions data at a granular level to help companies identify high-carbon footprint products, streamline data collection, and make informed decisions to support sustainability and compliance.
Our third annual Sustainability Report covers a wide array of ESG (environmental, social, and governance) topics. We’re committed to expanding our efforts on a yearly basis and developing disciplined, intentional processes to share, measure, and report on our goals, commitments, and accomplishments.

Rory Maguire organizes a RELEX tree-planting event with Trees Atlanta every year. For the past three years, Rory has invited RELEXians to join him in a park for an afternoon of digging, planting, mulching, and watering the new trees.
But his passion for environmental conservation doesn’t stop there. Outside of work, Rory also serves as a Commissioner for the city of Atlanta on their Tree Conservation Committee.
Leena Saari and a group of RELEXians participate in events organized by Suomen Luonnonsuojeluliitto (the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation) to remove Himalayan Balsam from around Longinoja in Malmi, Helsinki.
This particular invasive spreads aggressively in Finland and displaces native plants that are important to many local insects. Leena says the whole group went into “treasure hunting mode” in the woods as they enthusiastically scanned the forest floor the small, serrated leaves of Himalayan Balsam.
Niklas Strengell also spends his volunteer days weeding to help eradicate invasive species, like large lupines, which use nitrogen from the air to transform the soil until it’s incompatible with local plant and insect life.
By restoring natural spaces, Niklas has found a balance. He says doing this volunteer work is like a healthy feedback system. When he works for the benefit of those around him, their well-being contributes to his own.
